U.S. durable goods orders slipped 1.0% in January, while excluding transportation orders grew 1.1%, the Commerce Department reported Thursday.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters expected a 1.7% decrease in orders and a 0.3% slip excluding transportation.
In December, orders fell a revised 5.3%, first reported as a 4.2% decrease, while excluding transportation sales slid 1.9%, initially reported as a 1.6% decline.
Excluding defense orders fell 1.8% in January after a 4.4% drop in December.
Transportation equipment orders slid 5.6% in the month.
