Consumer Sentiment Index Dips in June

The University of Michigan’s preliminary June consumer sentiment index reading was 71.8, compared to the final May 74.3, the preliminary May 72.4, and the final April 69.8, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 66.8, compared to 69.5 in May, 67.4 earlier in May, and 61.6 in April.

The current conditions index was 79.6, compared to 81.9 in May, 80.2 earlier in May, and 82.5 in April.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 74.0 for the main index, 80.8 for current conditions, and 68.3 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 3.0%, compared to 2.9% in May, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 4.0%, compared to 4.1% in May.
