The University of Michigan's preliminary September consumer sentiment index reading was 100.8, compared to the final August 96.2, and the preliminary August 95.3, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 91.1 compared to the final August 87.1, and the preliminary August 87.3.
The current conditions index was 116.1, compared to the final August 110.3, and the preliminary August 107.8.
Economists polled by IFR Markets had predicted a 96.6 reading for the main index.
The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.4%, compared to 2.6% in August, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 2.8%, compared to 3.0% in August.
The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
