College Honchos Stay Put

Chicago Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel has decided to leave in place Martin Cabrera, head of the Chicago-based investment bank Cabrera Capital Markets LLC, as chairman of the City Colleges of Chicago board and Cheryl Hyman as executive director of the system.

Both were appointed by retiring Mayor Richard Daley. Emanuel, who has been on an announcement spree of appointments to city agencies and his administration ahead of his May 16 inauguration, also named Ellen Alberding, Charles Jenkins, Marisela Lawson, Larry Rodgers Sr., and Paula Wolff to the board.

“The board will continue to implement the top-to-bottom reinvention of the City Colleges of Chicago that began in 2010,” Emanuel said. “The leaders I have appointed today will kick the implementation into higher gear and achieve results for the students who depend on Chicago’s City Colleges to get them to college or a job.”
