David Cohen is leaving the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, where he was a managing director and associate general counsel, to join RBC Capital Markets as a director on the capital markets team.

"We are very pleased to welcome David to RBC Capital Markets," said Kevin Genirs, U.S. General Counsel at RBC, in a statement forwarded by a spokeswoman for the bank. "Coming from SIFMA's Municipal Division, David's deep industry knowledge of municipal markets, and his expertise in legal and regulatory matters impacting those markets, will be a valuable asset to the firm."

After spending a little over the past four years at SIFMA, Cohen will be the senior legal and regulatory advisor supporting RBC's municipals business, which is led by Chris Hamel, the head of U.S. municipal finance, and Mark Maroney, global head fixed income municipal and securitized products.

According to RBC, Cohen will work closely with Brian Hellberg, director, policy and procedure for U.S. municipal finance, Chad Leicht, head of fixed income compliance advisory, and the rest of the U.S. fixed income legal team.

"David's arrival to RBC underscores our commitment to the sector and further enhances our already strong municipal platform," Hamel said.

Cohen has over 23 years of experience in compliance and legal roles. Prior to his stint at SIFMA, David served as managing counsel at Cablevision Systems and an executive director at UBS.
