Large and middle-market companies decreased their demand for C&I loans, while small companies' loan demand was nearly flat.

Demand for CRE loans was stronger, according to "a moderate net fraction of banks," while demand was steady for loans backed by multifamily residential and nonfarm nonresidential properties, the Fed said.

Banks expect C&I demand to "remain basically unchanged" in the next half year.
