Bond Buyer Indexes Firm for Third Week

The weekly average yield to maturity of the Bond Buyer Municipal Bond Index, which is based on 40 long-term bond prices, was down four basis points this week, to 4.89% for the week ending Jan. 22, compared with 4.93% last week.

The 20-Bond GO Index of 20-year general obligation yields fell two basis points this week, to 4.48%. The index is at its lowest level since Oct. 31, 2013 (11 weeks ago), when it was 4.48%.

The 11-Bond GO Index of higher-grade 20-year GO yields fell two basis points this week, to 4.17%, which is its lowest level since July 3, 2013, when it was 4.16%.

The Bond Buyer's Revenue Bond Index, which measures 30-year revenue bond yields, gained two basis points this week, to 5.30%, the highest level since January 16.

The yield on the U.S. Treasury's 10-year note dropped eight basis points this week to 2.70%, the lowest level since November 14, 2013, when the yield was 2.69%.

The yield on the Treasury's 30-year bond lost three basis points this week, to 3.65%, the lowest it has been since Oct. 31 (11 weeks ago), when it was 3.63%.
