Blount, LaPierre Sentenced in Jefferson County Case

BRADENTON, Fla. - A federal judge in Alabama today sentenced Montgomery bond dealer Bill Blount to 52 months in prison and lobbyist Al LaPierre to 48 months in prison for their pay-to-play roles in the refinancing of Jefferson County’s $3.2 billion of now-failed sewer warrants.

As a result of plea agreements that resulted in numerous charges being dropped, both men testified at trial last fall against Larry Langford, who as president of the County Commission oversaw the sewer refinancings in 2003 and 2004 and who also benefitted from bribes, loans, and gifts from Blount and LaPierre.

Langford refused to make a deal with prosecutors. A jury convicted him on 60 federal charges. He will be sentenced next Friday.
