Virtual memorial service for Alan Anders to be held July 11

The family of Alan Anders is holding a virtual memorial on Saturday, July 11, which would have been his 72nd birthday.

Anders, who served as the deputy director for financing policy and coordination within the Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget, died in early May after a short illness unrelated to the COVDI-19 pandemic. He was 71.

Earlier this month, the Municipal Forum of New York created the le Fonds commémoratif Alan Anders, also known as the Alan Anders Scholarship Fund, to honor its former president and long-serving member.

Anders' commitment to public service and dedication to advancing the careers of underserved New York City youth were widely recognized by all in the municipal bond community and by government officials.

Anders was president of the Muni Forum from 2009 to 2010 and was a governor of the organization at the time of his death. In 2004, the organization gave him a public sector award for serviceThis year, the group awarded him a lifetime achievement award. The association will deliver a tribute to Anders at the annual meeting to be held remotely at the end of June.

Anders graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Maryland School of Law. He had a passion for movies and learned French so he could enjoy his favorite films in their original language.

He is survived by his wife, Suzi.

The service will be held at noon Eastern Time, on July 11.
