ADP December jobs estimate above expectations

Private-sector employment increased by 250,000 in December, on a seasonally adjusted basis, ADP estimated Thursday.

In November, ADP says 185,000 jobs were added, compared to its previous estimate of 190,000.

Economists surveyed by IFR Markets projected a 190,000 job gain for November.

“The job market ended the year strongly. Robust Christmas sales prompted retailers and delivery services to add to their payrolls,” said Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody’s Analytics. “The tight labor market will get even tighter, raising the specter that it will overheat.”
