4.439M Jobs Posted On Internet in October

About 4,439,000 online job postings appeared on leading internet job boards in October, a 21,000 increase from September’s revised level of 4,418,000, the Conference Board reported yesterday.

In October, there were 1.71 online job ads per 100 persons in the U.S. labor force. Of the 4,439,000 un-duplicated ads in October, 3,083,000 were new.

“The October labor demand data show losses in the financial sector but the greater impact will likely be in the November numbers,” according to Gad Levanon, economist with the Conference Board. “Demand was also down for workers in other areas of the economy, like sales, maintenance and repair, and construction. Based on the all-time low reading in the Conference Board’s consumer confidence index, we are likely to see more widespread deterioration in labor demand over the coming months.”
