County discusses bond referendum

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Davidson County Board of Commissioners voted last week to assemble a package of survey questions regarding a possible bond referendum.

By virtue of a unanimous vote, the Board enabled Assistant County Manager Casey Smith to present three bond packages to Susan Bulluck of Bulluck & Co./AmRuss Ventures of Wilmington. Commissioners tasked Bulluck & Co. with completing a feasibility study in May, which she presented to the Board at its meeting Nov. 14.

The bonds discussed included a school infrastructure package that would cost $33.5 million, a parks and recreation bond package that would cost $10.9 million and a sports complex/additional tourism amenities bond package that would cost $45.2 million. Bulluck will now put together a phone survey to be distributed to a group of residents in the second week of February.

Answers to the survey will help to determine which packages would pass on a referendum.

"I think this is good," Commissioner Todd Yates said. "This is something people can look at and decide whether they want to invest in the community. If they say no, then so be it."
