Kenneth Schuhmacher, former general counsel and commercial director of Skanska Infrastructure Development North America, has joined the New York office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, the law firm announced.

Schuhmacher, who started work Aug. 25, is partner in the energy and infrastructure group, Orrick said in a statement Tuesday. Before joining Skanska in 2012, he was in Latham & Watkins LLP's project finance group.

"Ken is widely respected as one of the leading practitioners in the [public-private partnership] and infrastructure market," said Dan Mathews, Orrick co-head of energy and infrastructure.

Orrick has more than 100 lawyers working on energy and infrastructure across the United States, Europe and Asia. It is advising on the LaGuardia Central Terminal privatization project in New York; the Pennsylvania bridges project in Pennsylvania; and the I-70 and Neon toll road projects in Colorado and Nevada, respectively.

Schuhmacher has more than 20 years' experience in development and project finance, privatization and acquisitions in the U.S. and internationally for infrastructure, power, and oil and gas projects. He has represented developers, borrowers, lenders, multilaterals, export credit agencies, issuers, off-takers, governments and national utilities.

While at Skanska, Schuhmacher oversaw a range of projects on both the business and legal side, including the financial close of the Elizabeth River Crossings Project in Virginia and managed all of its North American legal matters.

He earned degrees from the University of Michigan Law School, Queens' College of Cambridge University, England, and Dartmouth College.
