Puerto Rico Gets Mixed July Employment Report

July employment statistics in Puerto Rico were mixed.

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics' household survey, total employment slipped 0.02% in July from June, as the number of jobs remained at about 1.007 million. The unemployment rate rose to 11.4% July from 11.2% in June.

Compared with a year earlier, this survey showed employment up by 1.7% in July and the unemployment rate down by 0.6 percentage points.

The bureau also puts out a survey of non-farm employers. This showed the island's employment increased by 0.1% from a month earlier and 0.8% from a year earlier.

This establishment survey showed that private sector employment had grown by 0.16% from June and 0.56% from a year earlier.
