NBC Peter Pan Production Aids Nassau County Economy

The Dec. 4 live NBC television production of "Peter Pan Live" filmed in a Long Island sound studio highlights an economic boost that Nassau County is receiving from the film industry.

The primetime production, which starred Allison Williams and Christopher Walken, was taped live from Grumman Studios in Bethpage, N.Y. following nearly a month of preparations with 350 staff members and a cast of 46, according to Nassau County officials. The 500,000 square-foot Grumman Studios, which received support from the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency for upgrades, also hosted last year's NBC live production of "The Sound of Music" starring country artist Carrie Underwood as well taping for "The Amazing Spiderman 2."

"This new production, following last year's live NBC production of 'The Sound of Music,' demonstrates that Nassau County is well on its way to establishing itself the Hollywood East of the movie and television industry," Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano said in a statement. "We now have more filming days than four of the five New York City boroughs and regularly employ electricians, carpenters and artisans and use local venders for hardware and other supplies."

In addition to Grumman Studios, Nassau County has also had films shot at many other locations including the Nassau County Correctional Center, Belmont Racetrack, the Garden City Hotel and Old Bethpage Village Restoration. An independent report released last December by Camoin Associates estimated that the county received more than $140 million in economic benefits from the film industry in 2012 with 1,945 people employed.
