LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles International Traffic is expected to be the busiest U.S. airport during the Thanksgiving holiday for the third year running.

LAX is expected to see a record 2.1 million travelers for a 6.9% increase over last year, according to the mayor's office.

"L.A. is a world-class destination for visitors from around the globe, and this is great news for our local economy," said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti in a prepared statement.

This upcoming Friday, Nov. 20 and Monday, Nov. 30 are expected to be the busiest travel days with Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday the slowest. Passenger volume over the period will range from 147,000 to 219,000 travelers daily. LAX is in the midst of an $8.5 billion modernization program consisting of more than 20 individual projects. During the Thanksgiving holiday period, there will be a construction moratorium on projects causing significant impacts to passenger flow.
