Jobless Claims Rise 12,000 to 267,000 in July 25 Week

WASHINGTON — Initial unemployment claims rose 12,000 to a still low 267,000 in the July 25 week, with the advance all due to seasonal adjustment, and providing little new information on the labor market.

There were no special factors. The 4-week average for claims is 275,000, indicating a steady state and a strong labor market. This compares to averages of 275,000 in both May and June.

Continuing claims posted a 46,000 gain to 2.262 million in the July 18 week.

These data remain consistent with moderate real growth.
