Brookings Institution Upgraded to AA-Minus by S&P

Standard & Poor's Ratings Services raised its long-term rating to AA-minus from A-plus on the District of Columbia's revenue bonds, series 2009, issued on behalf of the Brookings Institution.

The outlook is stable.

"The upgrade reflects the institution's healthy financial resources and improved operating performance the past three years, as well as significant progress made toward its fundraising campaign goal," said Standard & Poor's credit analyst Jessica Matsumori.

The Brookings Institution is a nonprofit organization dedicated to producing independent research on issues surrounding public policy. Based in Washington, D.C., the institution strives to maximize the quality, independence, and impact of its research by providing recommendations that advance three broad goals: strengthen American democracy; foster the economic and social welfare, security, and opportunity of all Americans; and secure a more open, safe, prosperous, and cooperative international system.
