NFMA Names 2013 Board Officers

WASHINGTON — The National Federation of Municipal Analysts on Friday announced its new officers, including new chair Jeffrey Burger, portfolio manager at Standish Mellon Asset Management Co. in Boston.

NFMA officers serve one-year terms that began Jan. 1.

Burger, who was vice chair in 2012, succeeds Gregory Aikman, vice president at BNY Mellon Wealth Management, who will remain on the executive committee as an advisor in 2013.

Burger has been an NFMA board member since 2008, having been vice chair, treasurer, secretary, education chair and communications committee chair.

He was also president of the Boston Municipal Analysts Forum.

At Standish Mellon, he manages portfolios on the tax-sensitive strategies team for institutional, high-net worth clients and mutual fund clients. Earlier, Burger was a senior analyst at Standish specializing in land-secured and special-tax bonds.

Before joining Standish, he was portfolio manager and senior research analyst at Columbia Management Investment Advisers LLC, and senior analyst at Fitch Ratings.

Burger has a master’s degree in public administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree in policy studies and public relations from Syracuse University.

Other new NFMA officers for 2013 include Vice Chair Susan Dushock, senior vice president at SunTrust Banks. Dushock previously served as NFMA treasurer and chair of the education and sponsorship committees.

The new treasurer is Jennifer Johnston, vice president in Franklin Templeton Investments’ municipal bond division. Johnston, who was previously NFMA secretary and has been chair of the annual conference committee, joined Franklin Templeton in 1993 and specializes in munis issued by municipalities and school districts in California, New York, Illinois and Puerto Rico, according to the NFMA’s website.

She is former chair of the California Society of Municipal Analysts.

Lisa Washburn, managing director at Municipal Market Advisors, is NFMA’s new secretary. Washburn has been co-chair of the industry practices and procedures committee and chair of the annual conference committee.
