Detroit Mayor Dave Bing Friday announced his two appointments to the nine-member financial review board that will oversee the city’s finances as part of the new consent decree with the state.
Bing tapped Eddie Munson, a retired pharmaceutical executive and former partner at KPMG LLP, and Sandra Pierce, a Detroit native who is president and chief executive of the Charter One bank in Michigan.
Pierce is also on the Detroit Public Schools’ Bond Advisory and Fiscal Responsibility Committee, which oversees the school district’s $500 million capital program.
“Consistent with the appointments made last week, these individuals exceed the qualifications established by the financial stability agreement,” Bing said in a statement.
They join three members appointed two weeks ago.
State Treasurer Andy Dillon tapped Ken Whipple, a 40-year Ford employee who is now chairman of executive search firm Korn/Ferry International.
Gov. Rick Snyder selected Darrell Burks, a senior partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers and certified public accountant.
Former state Treasurer Robert Bowman will be on the board as a joint appointment made by Snyder and Bing.
Snyder has two more appointments, and the City Council picks two.
The council spent part of Monday and Tuesday interviewing candidates. Council members complained that so far, none of the appointees are residents of Detroit.
