Harrisburg Activist Wins Appeal

The founder of Harrisburg Hope has won his battle with Gov. Tom Corbett’s administration to continue leading the community group on his free time while working as a state attorney.

Alan Kennedy-Shaffer is the assistant counsel for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, which demanded he cease all involvement with the group, saying it promoted a political agenda.

Kennedy-Shaffer, however, argued that Harrisburg Hope promoted no agenda and that he invited political leaders with diverse perspectives to participate in community forums about the debt crisis in Pennsylvania’s capital city.

According to the Patriot-News, Corbett’s secretary of administration, Kelly Powell Logan, approved Kennedy-Shaffer’s appeal in a Nov. 20 letter.
