The Norwich, Conn., City Council put on the November ballot a $33.4 million bond referendum that would pay for a new downtown police station.
According to the Norwich Bulletin, Mayor Peter Nystrom and police chief Louis Fusaro Sr. spent weeks lobbying on behalf of a 57,000-square-foot complex, including a $5 million multi-level parking garage.
"I think it's certainly a worthwhile project, and, ultimately, voters get the say," Alderman Mark Bettencourt said after the City Council approved the measure in a 6-to-1 vote last week.
Also that night, the council voted unanimously to include a separate $8 million bond that would allow Norwich Public Utilities to expand its natural gas service, the newspaper reported.
