Incumbent Gov. Scott Walker and Republican groups spent $58.7 million on the historic recall election in June while his Democratic challenger Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Democratic groups spent $22 million.
Walker prevailed in the race held June 5. While $81 million was spent on the governor's race, a total of $137 million was spent when all recall elections involving state senators were also counted. Democrats succeeded in taking a narrow 17-16 lead in the Senate due to the recall elections.
The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign released the campaign figures last week.
