Fairfield, Conn., opened its third train station, Fairfield Metro, to commuters last week.
The $90 million station, which sits between the Fairfield and Bridgeport stations on the Metro-North New Haven Line, includes 1,400 parking spaces.
Metro-North, a division of New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority, provides service under contract with the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
ConnDOT and the town built the station. The department owns the entire station facility, while Fusco Management Co. will operate the parking lot.
Fairfield’s other station is Southport.
The town in September passed a $7.5 million bond authorization to cover costs of the long-delayed project.
The project, which was originally designed to involve office, retail and hotel space, stalled amid political bickering over zoning.
