Education Grants Reviewed

Gov. Dannel Malloy has announced the members of a new task force that will review the effectiveness of Connecticut’s education cost-sharing grants and how it relates to state constitutional requirements.

Malloy and legislative leaders appointed the group, which will develop recommendations on how to change how school districts divide up money.

The group will also consider state grants to interdistrict magnet schools and regional agricultural science and technology centers, as well as special education costs for the state and municipalities.

Under state statute, the group must submit an initial report on its findings and recommendations by Jan. 2 and its final report by Oct. 1.

Co-chairing the task force are Benjamin Barnes, secretary for the Office of Policy and Management, and Sen. Andrea Stillman, D-Waterford, co-chairwoman of the Senate Education Committee.

The panel includes Rep. Michael Molgano, R-Stamford, a member of the bonding committee.
