Ex-N.Y. Senate Staffer Joins BDA as VP

Jessica Giroux, formerly with the office of New York state Sen. James Alesi, has joined the Bond Dealers of America as a vice president.

Giroux will spearhead committee development within the BDA and serve as a liaison to the group's committees, such as those on municipal bonds and taxable bonds. She will also work on policy analysis and government relations.

"Jessica has a broad range of experience, as well as the intelligence and energy to make an immediate impact on our members and our organization," Mike Nicholas, the BDA's chief executive officer, said in a release.

As chief of staff and counsel to the Republican Alesi from October 2009 through June of this year, Giroux oversaw legislative initiatives, including research and drafting bills for consideration by the full Senate.

She also managed committee legislation, providing background information and vote recommendations on bills that came before the committees on Commerce, Energy, Higher Education, Insurance, Labor, and Tourism.

"There are a number of critical issues currently before federal policymakers and the BDA will take a leadership role in making sure its members are heard on these vital matters," Giroux said in a statement.

Before joining Alesi's staff, she served as a senior legislative representative in the Washington office of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg for four years, from October 2005 through October 2009.

Giroux obtained a bachelor's degree in political science from the State University of New York at Albany in 2000. She earned a law degree from the Albany Law School of Union University in 2003.

She worked as an assistant counsel to Alesi from July 2004 through October 2005.

The BDA represents a range of members, from small independent firms to large, bank-owned institutions, such as Wells Fargo Securities, but focuses on regional mid-market firms.

The group, previously known as the Regional Bond Dealers Association, has 44 full and associate members, according to its website.
