N.Y.C. IBO Head Stays Put

The director of the New York City Independent Budget Office was reappointed to a four-year term last week. Ronnie Lowenstein, who has been at the nonpartisan city agency since it was created in 1996, has served as its director since 2000.

As specified by the city charter, a committee of four elected officials selected Lowenstein on the recommendation of a 10-member board.

The IBO regularly releases reports on city budget and economic issues and Lowenstein testifies during budget hearings. Prior to joining the IBO, she was an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and taught economics at Barnard College. Lowenstein earned her Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University and her undergraduate degree from Guilford College.
