The Municipal Bond Club of New York raised $3,500 for the East Harlem Tutorial Program at its second annual fundraiser on Nov. 4.
More than 50 members from the municipal bond community attended the event, which was held at Comix, a comedy club on West 14th Street.
“As a club, we believe that our mission extends beyond just providing social events for our members and this event shows the generosity of the municipal bond community,” said Stephen Juter, president of the MBCNY. “Besides providing a great networking opportunity for bond professionals, we are giving to a very worthy organization.”
The club sponsors an event each year in which all proceeds are directed to a specific charity.
The East Harlem Tutorial Program, founded 53 years ago, teaches reading and math to children, provides one-to-one tutoring, and helps prepares teens for college. The program has served more than 15,000 children in New York City.
The program received approval in May to open the East Harlem Scholars Academy, a public charter school. When the school opens in August 2011, it will be only one of six charters accepted by the State University of New York Board of Trustees. It will also be the first located in Manhattan, according to the EHTP.
The next event for the MBCNY will be its annual Christmas Party. It will be held on Dec. 15 at Battery Park Gardens and is open to all MBCNY members. For more information, visit
