Hartsfield Gets New Boss

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed Tuesday appointed Robert Kennedy as acting general manager of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, effective June 30.

Kennedy has been the assistant general manager for operations, maintenance and security at the airport since September 2006. He will temporarily replace Ben DeCosta, who has been general manager for more than a decade. DeCosta reportedly is retiring.

Reed last week named a nine-member committee to work with the search firm Heidrick & Struggles to interview and recommend candidates to lead the country’s busiest airport.

“My goal is to find an individual who will continue to maintain Atlanta’s dominance as the number one passenger airport in the country,” Reed said.

The new general manager will be responsible for overseeing the completion of the new Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal and other projects.

The airport is preparing to bring an $800 million new-money and refunding deal to the bond market with much of the proceeds to be used to complete the new terminal.
