Vote Targets Tax Agency

Philadelphia voters tomorrow will weigh in on a referendum to terminate the Bureau of Revision of Taxes and move the agency’s functions within the city’s administration.

Currently, the BRT, which sets property values, consists of a seven-member panel appointed by judges of the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania. Mayor Michael Nutter has been seeking to abolish the BRT and place the task of assessing property values within his administration.

“Philadelphians deserve a property tax system that is predictable, accurate, and fair,” Nutter said in a prepared statement. “By voting “YES” on May 18th, we, as a city, will be taking a huge leap forward in modernizing Philadelphia’s tax structure.”
