New Deputy at Treasury

Oregon Treasurer Ben Westlund announced Tuesday that he has appointed Darren Q. Bond as deputy treasurer.

Bond, a 19-year veteran of the treasurer’s office, was most recently manager of its finance division, which provides banking services to state agencies, manages its commercial bank and fiscal agent relationships, administers the local government investment pool, and provides accounting for the state’s investment portfolios.

He replaces Kate Cooper Richardson, who resigned to pursue other opportunities, according to a spokesman for the office.

Richardson, the chief of staff to the previous treasurer, Randall Edwards, had been deputy treasurer since January when Westlund was sworn in.

The deputy treasurer oversees the day-to-day operations of the office, which manages the state’s investment, debt management, and banking functions.

“Darren Bond’s management skills and financial acumen have benefited Oregon and its citizens for almost 20 years, and he has played a key role in turning the Office of the State Treasurer into a money-saving engine for Oregon,” Westlund said in a statement.
