CHICAGO - Miami-based Greenberg Traurig LLP has hired veteran Chicago-based Chapman and Cutler LLP bond attorney Deborah Thomas Boye, providing a national boost for the firm's utility and environmental facilities sectors.
Boye, who was a longtime partner at Chapman and Cutler in Chicago, joined Greenberg earlier this year as a shareholder in its public finance practice.
Boye has specialized in private-activity bond issues for solid-waste disposal facilities, industrial development revenue bond financings, municipally owned and cooperative utilities, and other nonprofit corporations. Her client and project list spans the country and includes issuers, borrowers, underwriters, and banks providing credit enhancement.
"Debbi is an accomplished and well-regarded public finance lawyer. We are pleased to count her among our colleagues here," Paul T. Fox, co-managing shareholder of the Chicago office, said in a statement.
Boye, a graduate of the University of Notre Dame's law school, joins Mark J. McCombs and Matthew Lewin in the Chicago office's public finance group. Lewin had long worked with Boye at Chapman before he left to chair Greenberg's new Chicago public finance practice.
"We think that her national tax-exempt practice ... will mesh extremely well with GT's existing national utility and energy practice groups, which operate throughout GT's 28 offices in the United States," Lewin said.
Greenberg Traurig's public finance practice includes more than 45 attorneys. The international firm employs more than 1,800 lawyers, and ranked 19th nationally last year as bond counsel on 74 deals worth $4.3 billion and 11th as underwriters counsel on 106 deals worth $5.5 billion.
Chapman ranked 11th as bond counsel and 15th as underwriter's counsel, according to Thomson Reuters.
