Wake Weighs School Needs

Wake County officials continue to try to decide the best way to handle its growing school capital needs, including going to voters next fall with a bond referendum. An exact amount has not been determined.

In North Carolina, counties issue bonds for schools.

Wake officials are trying to figure out how many schools should be opened year-round, as the greater the number the higher the cost.

The issue has put parents at odds with school officials. A group of parents last year called WakeCares was successful in challenging the year-round plan.

The next step will come in late May when the school board and county commissioners are scheduled to meet together on the issue.
