The U.S. producer price index data for October was mixed yesterday, with the good news of a record overall drop offset by still-rising core inflation.
October PPI fell 2.8%, but core was up 0.4% for over-the-year rates of a 5.2% overall rise and a 4.4% increase at the core.
Core PPI was boosted by a 4.0% jump in tires, a 2.6% increase in light trucks, a 1.0% climb in aircraft, and a 2.3% spike in malt beverages.
Cars declined 1.7% and pharmaceuticals fell 0.3%. Some areas are seeing price declines increase in intensity, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said.
