Head of Federal Relations Office Leaves NAST

Dan DeSimone, director of the federal relations office of the National Association of State Treasurers Office in Washington, D.C., left the group on Friday, a spokeswoman confirmed yesterday.

The position has not been filled, however Kevin Johnson, communications manager for the office, is expected to serve in DeSimone's position on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is hired.

DeSimone will be working for the state of Oregon's Washington office beginning on Dec. 1, said Pam Taylor, a spokeswoman for NAST in Lexington, Ky.

"We're very sad to see him go," Taylor said. "Dan was a great asset for NAST." DeSimone could be reached yesterday.

DeSimone worked in NAST's Washington office as a policy analyst before joining the Government Finance Officers Association. He returned to NAST where he has served as director for federal relations for the past two years

DeSimone helped lead the group's public relations campaign urging the Supreme Court to overturn a Kentucky Court of Appeals ruling that income derived from out of state municipal bonds could not be taxed. The Supreme Court overturned the ruling in May.
