Obituary

Friends and colleagues of veteran credit analyst Richard H. "Rick" Lowes will remember the diehard Chicago Cubs fan on Thursday at a memorial being held at Ceres Cafe in the Board of Trade Building in downtown Chicago.

Lowes, who was based in the city, died unexpectedly from heart failure on Sept. 18. He was 59. Lowes managed the fixed-income research group at Harris Bank where he worked for more than 20 years. He began his career at the former Continental Illinois Bank and Trust.

Lowes, a native of Logansport, Ind., attended Indiana University where he received a bachelor's degree in 1971 and then a master's of business administration in 1973.

"Rick was well-respected for his broad knowledge of municipal and corporate finance and was particularly passionate about municipal credit analysis," a statement from Harris read. "Always a gentleman, Rick was ever kind and always looking for a laugh. He will be greatly missed."

The Chicago resident's interests outside of work included tennis and the music of the Rolling Stones and Emmylou Harris. He was described as a lifelong, often frustrated fan of the Cubs, who captured the National League central division title this year and are currently playing the Los Angles Dodgers in the first round of playoffs. The memorial at Ceres will be held Oct. 9 between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. The board of trade is located at LaSalle and Jackson Streets.
