Rose Out, McGuire In

Gary Rose will leave his post as chief of the New Jersey Office of Economic Growth at the end of this month, with Angie McGuire, the current deputy chief of the department, stepping in as acting head until Gov. Jon Corzine finds a replacement.

Rose took over his position shortly after Corzine took office in 2006. McGuire, who is also the current acting director of the Commerce Commission, has served as deputy chief since March 2006. She spent 20 years in the computing and telecom industry. She has a degree in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles and a master’s degree in public administration from Rutgers University.

“Angie has played a critical role in the success of the Office of Economic Growth and I am confident that she will be able to make our transition to a new director as seamless as possible,” Corzine said in a press release. “We created this position at the beginning of the administration as part of our effort to maximize growth in the state’s economy by allowing Gary to work across all platforms of state government. His hard work, civic spirit, and sound counsel will be missed.”

The administration could also see another departure. PolitickerNJ.com last week reported that former state treasurer and current chief of staff for the governor, Bradley Abelow, will be leaving his position once lawmakers pass the fiscal 2009 budget by June 30.

Sean Darcy, spokesman for Corzine did not confirm or deny the report on Abelow. “Everyone leaves at some point, but Brad has no departure date,” he said via e-mail.
