The weekly average yield to maturity of The Bond Buyer Municipal Bond Index, which is based on 40 long-term bond prices, fell two basis points to 4.29% in the week ended Dec. 31, from 4.31% in the previous week.

Long-term municipal bond issuance increased for the fifth month in a row as volume increased 40% in December, jumping to $37.83 billion from $27.04 billion a year ago. The gain pushed total issuance for 2014 to $333.32 billion, just shy of 2013s total volume of $333.85 billion.
