Wyden, Gregg to Debut Tax-Reform Legislation

WASHINGTON — Sens. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and Judd Gregg, R-N.H., plan to introduce bipartisan, comprehensive tax-reform legislation on Tuesday after the Senate returns from its recess.

The two lawmakers said Wednesday that they have been working together on legislation for two years "that will make the federal tax code simpler and fairer for all Americans and businesses of every size."

Neither Wyden, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, Gregg, or their aides would disclose details of the bill. But the senators said the bill will be "fiscally responsible."

"We believe that our legislation will demonstrate that not only can Congress avoid a partisan debate over how best to address the expiring 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, but that Democrats and Republicans also can achieve much more by working together than they can apart," they said.

Gregg is a member of the Senate Appropriations, Budget and Banking committees.
