NEW YORK - The University of Michigan's consumer sentiment index reading was 75.5, compared to the final May 73.6 reading, the 73.3 preliminary May, and the final April 72.2, according to market sources.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 74.5 reading for the index.
The expectations index was 70.7, compared to 68.8 in May and 66.5 in April.
The current conditions index was 82.9, compared to 81.0 in May and 81.0 in April.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted an 81.0 reading for the current conditions index and 69.5 for the expectations index.
The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.8%, compared to 2.9% in May and 2.7% in April, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 2.7%, compared to 3.2% in May and 2.9% in April.
The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
