U. of Mich. June Index at 71.5 vs. 74.3 in May

NEW YORK - The University of Michigan's final June consumer sentiment index reading was 71.5, compared to the preliminary June 71.8, the final May 74.3 reading, preliminary May 72.4 reading, and the final April 69.8, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 64.8, compared to 66.8 earlier in the month, 69.5 in May, 67.4 earlier in May, and 61.6 in April.

The current conditions index was 82.0, compared to 79.6 earlier in the month, 81.9 in May, 80.2 earlier in May, and 82.5 in April.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 72.0 reading for the main index, 79.6 for current conditions and 66.6 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 3.0%, compared to 2.9% in May, 3.0% earlier in May, and 2.9% in April, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.8%, compared to 4.1% in May, 4.4% earlier in May, and 4.6% in April.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
