LOS ANGELES—Republican San Diego City Councilman Kevin Faulconer and Democratic City Councilman David Alvarez will face off in a runoff election Feb. 11 to replace former San Diego Mayor Bob Filner, who resigned under pressure following a sexual harassment scandal.

Republican Faulconer grabbed the lead garnering 43.5% of the vote in the race featuring six Democratic opponents, according to the San Diego County Registrar of Voters. Alvarez earned 25.6% of the vote narrowly edging out former Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher who garnered 24.3%, by 2,638 votes,.
