The expanded group will provide stories for both the newspaper and TM3, with the Thomson Municipal News component of TM3 to be renamed The Bond Buyer Wire.
"The two groups fit together well and this merger is long overdue," said Tom Curtin, publisher of The Bond Buyer newspaper. "With this consolidation, we will have the largest and, collectively, the most experienced team of editors and reporters ever assembled covering the municipal market."
As part of this consolidation, Kieran Beer will become the editor-in- chief of The Bond Buyer and the newly-renamed wire. Beer was editor-in- chief of The Bond Buyer from 1994 to 1996, and then moved over to manage the TM3 editorial effort.
"TM3 will get the benefit of the Bond Buyer's extensive bureau system which consists of over 41 full-time reporters in 7 bureaus and the newspaper will get the benefit of the top-notch market reporting skills of the wire reporters," Beer said.
"TM3 and The Bond Buyer were already working closely together," said Allen Williams, president of the Thomson Municipals Group. "With TM3 providing much of the daily market coverage and The Bond Buyer providing stories to TM3 from its bureaus, this is a logical thing to do."
Don Yacoe, current editor of The Bond Buyer, will take on a new role as statistics and strategic projects editor. In that capacity, Yacoe will look to expand the editorial coverage for the combined group in addition to creating new products.
The changes will take place immediately.o
