Scott County voters have approved $24 million of bonds to build a new 24-bed hospital in Scott City to replace a 56-year-old facility.
The debt will include general obligation bonds and sales tax bonds. The debt will be supported with an increase in the property tax, an additional 1% sales tax, and a pledge of 11% of hospital revenues.
The final tally was 830 in favor and 776 opposed for a total turnout of 51.7% of registered voters.
Construction of the existing facility was financed in 1953 with a property tax assessment, as was an expansion in 1975.
Scott County’s revenue debt is rated A-plus by Standard & Poor’s.
