Bill Hubbard, president of St. John the Baptist Parish, is seeking council approval for putting a $25 million bond issue for building levees and other projects on the ballot for a special election on July 19.

Proceeds would finance an expansion of the existing parish administrative complex or a new facility, and would provide funds for the first phase of a proposed hurricane protection levee.

“I am asking the public to support this bond issue because it will allow us to move on many projects that have been on the back burner for quite some time,” Hubbard said. “There is also money in this bond issue for the local funding needed for the first phase for the hurricane protection levee on Lake Pontchartrain that is needed to protect our citizens and their property.”

Proposed allocations include $9.5 million for flood control and levees, $5 million for public buildings, $5 million for water utility system improvements, $3 million for roads, and $2.5 million for parks and recreation.
