Small businesses were less optimistic in November as the Small Business Optimism index fell to 94.8 in November from 96.1 in October, the National Federation of Independent Business said Tuesday.

"During this holiday season, small business owners are finding little to be hopeful or optimistic about including the economy in the New Year," said NFIB Chief Economist William Dunkelberg. "This month's Index continues to signal a lackluster economy and shows that the small business sector has no expansion energy whatsoever."
Six of the 10 indices declined in November, one posted a small gain and three were unchanged. The 94.8 reading is "well below the 42 year average of 98," the NFIB said.
