Sharpless, Acosta Join Sterne to Lead Public Finance in Texas

DALLAS - Carlos Sharpless and Richard Acosta have joined Sterne Agee to lead public finance activities in Texas, the company said.

Sharpless, managing director, and Acosta, senior vice president, previously worked for Popular Securities, where Sharpless was manager of the Southwest region.

Sharpless will based in Houston, and Acosta will work in the San Antonio office, where they will coordinate public finance banking in Texas. Sterne Agee has a fixed-income office in Dallas, as well.

With 29 years in public finance, Sharpless began his career with First Southwest Co. in 1983 and served in the public finance departments of Dillon Read and Bear, Stearns & Co. before joining Popular Securities. He earned a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University and an MBA from Southern Methodist University.

Acosta has seven years in public finance in Texas after earning his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and an MBA from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
