WASHINGTON - New orders for manufactured goods increased 0.3% in September on a seasonally adjusted basis, the Commerce Department reported Thursday.
Excluding transportation, new orders rose 1.3%. The September orders gain followed a 0.1% August increase.
The median estimate of economists polled by Thomson Reuters was for a 0.1% decline in total orders.
Shipments were up 0.3%, unfilled orders were up 0.9% and inventories were up 0.1%.
