Construction spending declined 0.4% in September, the Commerce Department said Monday, and is 2.9% above the September 2013 level.
In August, construction spending slid a revised 0.5%, first reported as a 0.8% decrease.
Spending on private construction fell 0.1% in the month, while public construction slid 1.3%.
Residential construction gained 0.4% and single-family housing climbed 1.1% in the month.
Multi-family housing decreased 1.0%.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters predicted a 0.7% rise in construction spending.
