Standard & Poor's Ratings Services said it raised its long-term rating on Sangamon & Morgan Counties Community Unit School District No. 16 (New Berlin), Ill.'s general obligation bonds one notch to AA from AA-minus.
The outlook is stable.
"The upgrade reflects nearly a decade of operating surpluses, improved economic indicators, and a declining debt burden," said Standard & Poor's credit analyst Ruth Ducret.
The district provides prekindergarten through 12th-grade education to a population of 5,935 residing in 153 square miles of western Springfield, the village of New Berlin, and other communities Sangamon and Morgan counties.
